The Civil War
During the civil war, Dorothea became the Superintendent of Army Nurses. This was a honorable milestone in her life. It was not a simple task and Dorothea was pretty strict. She had a ton of responsibility, and was in charge of setting up first aid stations, managing supplies that were coming in, even hiring nurses to come assist her.
When she recruited nurses, she had guidelines, in which, they had to follow. They had to fall under a certain age category of 35 to 50 years old. They couldn't be anything under, or anything above. The women, that where hired at the hospital were restricted. No makeup, no jewelry were allowed, especially because men would frown upon women workers and Dorothea, wanted to prevent any unneeded tension between the two sexes.
