Who is Dorothea Dix?
Dorothea Dix, was one the voices for the mentally ill during the late 1800s. Her efforts, affected the common notion of the mentally ill being, "socially unacceptable," deranged and demonic. Dorothea, felt it was her moral obligation, to break boundaries and drastically impact the victims of, mental illness. She needed to change the perception others had on these individuals and educate them on the importance of, "moral treatment," not only was it there right, but it was her responsibility.
